CHOOSING OR CHANGING YOUR MAJOR
Selecting or changing a major is an important decision—and it’s okay if you’re unsure! College is a time for exploration, and many students adjust their academic path as they discover their strengths and interests. Here’s some advice to help guide you through the process.
1. Reflect on Your Interests and Strengths
Think about the classes, activities, and subjects you enjoy and excel in. Consider how those might relate to different fields of study.
2. Use Career Assessment Tools
Tools like FOCUS 2 can help you explore how your interests and skills align with potential majors and careers. Ask your career advisor how to access these resources.
3. Research Majors and Careers
Look into the courses required for each major and the types of jobs graduates pursue. Websites like O*NET and What Can I Do With This Major are great places to start.
4. Talk to People
Speak with academic advisors, faculty, alumni, and professionals in fields you're curious about. Informational interviews can give you real-world insight into different paths.
5. Try It Out
Take introductory courses in majors that interest you. Join related student organizations or participate in job shadowing, internships, or volunteering.
